CCTV captures truck falling off a bridge

A security camera captured the moment when a truck plunged off a bridge in the Metropolitan Region of Vitória on Wednesday (8/16).

The Federal Highway Police reported that the driver died at the scene. The victim was identified as Gilberto Alves de Souza, a 30-year-old individual.

According to information from the Federal Highway Police on-site, the vehicle was loaded with supermarket supplies such as boxes, bags, and other items.

Based on initial investigations by the agents who responded to the incident, there was no apparent reaction to prevent the accident; consequently, there are no skid marks on the road. According to the officers, "it's possible to conclude that the driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel." However, forensic work is still ongoing.

Gilberto worked for Supermercado Casagrande, which released a statement expressing their sorrow. The company stated, "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy," and added that "we will provide all necessary support and assistance to the employee's family and await the results of the forensic investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident."
